Owen's background is in textiles. Through experience with fabrics, he developed a keen eye for materials and weaving techniques—but also for the cultures and history rooted in them. He understands a rug not just by sight: he knows what the patterns mean, where the traditions come from, and how to recognize authenticity. In 2019, he founded Houseify as a direct bridge between that knowledge and the customer.

At Houseify, Owen writes about the cultures, traditions, and materials behind every piece in the collection. Every item bearing his name is based on direct experience: visits to weaving studios, conversations with weavers, and years of selecting for quality rather than price.
Owen knows the five major Berber types—Beni Ouarain, Azilal, Beni Mguild, Boujaad, and Boucherouite—from direct experience in the High and Middle Atlas. He assesses rugs based on knot density, the lanolin content of the wool, and the authenticity of the patterns. His selection includes only rugs where the fringes are an extension of the weave itself.
Kelims zijn vlakgeweven tapijten zonder pool - de patronen ontstaan volledig door de weefstructuur zelf. Persian rugs are the most technically complex form of hand-knotted rug. Owen is familiar with the classic regions of origin—Tabriz, Isfahan, Qom, Kashan—and assesses rugs for knot density, pile height, and the authenticity of patterns and dyes. Every piece in the collection is documented for its provenance.
