Berber cushions
Load moreWhat is a Berber cushion?
Features of a Berber cushion
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Material | Sheep’s wool, sometimes with a cotton backing |
| Cartridge | Usually ivory white with black diamond patterns, like a Beni Ouarain |
| Origin | Morocco, by the same makers as the Berber rug |
How do you choose the right Berber cushion?

Fast delivery and helpful advice on returning items that were delivered in excess.
I chose a rug that I really liked. Everything was clearly described and the delivery went smoothly and quickly. I’m very happy with my purchase. Thank you!!!
I found a beautiful and unique rug. Friendly customer service. It took a while to arrive, as it had to be shipped from its country of origin. It was well worth the wait. Highly recommended!!
Good, prompt communication and they really think things through with you. Brilliant🤍 and a little gift in the post for writing a review. Which shop still does that these days?!
Good to know
For every product on Houseify, it is stated whether the filling is included or whether it is just a cover. Please check this in the product information, as it determines the weight and the price.
Yes. The thick, soft wool pile provides a lovely contrast to the smooth leather, whilst the dark check pattern of a Beni Ouarain helps to maintain a sense of calm in the piece of furniture.
Vacuum the cushion from time to time using a soft brush attachment, or give it a good shake. Blot any stains immediately with a damp cloth and a drop of pH-neutral wool detergent. Do not put it in the washing machine.
Each cushion is hand-knotted without a pre-drawn pattern, just like the rug. Slight variations in line thickness and texture are part and parcel of the craftsmanship and make each piece unique.
The ivory-white background with dark lines goes well with virtually any sofa colour, from neutral to bold. For greater contrast, choose a Berber cushion with a darker background colour.
No. Wool is not resistant to rain and damp outdoor air. Use the cushion indoors or on a covered terrace.
New woollen cushions may have a slight woollen smell, which will disappear of its own accord after a few weeks. Once you have received the cushion, leave it to air out for a while in a well-ventilated room.
Both are made from the same wool and using the same technique, but a cushion is smaller and more generously filled, whilst a rug lies flat on the floor. They go well together as a set.
The dark lines may fade slightly over the years if exposed to direct sunlight for long periods. Do not leave the cushion in direct sunlight all the time.
40x40 cm and 50x50 cm are the most common sizes, suitable for most sofas and chairs. Rectangular versions, such as 60x45 cm, look playful on an armchair.
Due to its thick wool filling and dense pile, a Berber cushion is heavier than a standard cotton cushion cover, which contributes to its full, luxurious feel.
A vintage Berber cushion is made from an older piece of woollen fabric, usually several decades old. The colours have softened with use and exposure to light, giving each piece a unique look.
