About the collection

What makes a rug suitable for the living room?

A rug in the living room ties the sofa, armchairs and coffee table together, dampens noise and makes the room feel cosier. The living room is one of the most frequently used rooms in the house. Durability is therefore a key consideration. With daily use, a tightly knotted or woven sheep’s wool pile will last longer than a loosely woven rug. A rug with a very high pile will wear out more quickly in the most heavily trodden areas.

The collection comprises various types and shapes. A Beni Ouarain is a densely knotted Berber rug made from sheep’s wool, usually in beige or white. A Boujaad is also a Berber rug, often available in multicoloured or beige versions. A Kelim is thin and flat-woven, such as the grey-plaited Soukaina Kelim. Art Deco rugs such as the Tariq are among the more expensive items in the range. If you’re looking for a thick, soft pile, take a look at the Berber rugs or the high-pile rugs. If, on the other hand, you want a sleek, low-pile rug for a modern look, a geometric or plain rug is the right choice. A Scandinavian rug with straight lines suits a minimalist interior, a vintage rug adds extra character, and a shaggy rug makes the seating area cosy and inviting. A round rug also works well under a round coffee table or in a smaller seating area.

The price varies mainly according to size: a 150x100 cm Beni Ouarain costs €468.95, whilst a 300x200 cm Boujaad comes to €1,649.95. The type also plays a role: an Art Deco rug such as the Tariq starts at €2,994.95. Each product page lists the exact dimensions, material composition and pile height, so you can compare quality and price.

Size by bank size

For a three-seater sofa, 200 x 300 cm is the standard size, with the front legs of the sofa and armchairs resting on the rug. The following table shows the recommended sizes for each sofa:

Furniture Recommended size Placement
2-seater sofa 160 x 230 cm Front legs on the rug
3-seater sofa 200 × 300 cm The front legs of the sofa and armchairs on the rug
Corner sofa 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 400 cm Both sections of the sofa on the rug
Small seating area 150 x 250 cm Only under the coffee table, with furniture around it

How do you choose the right living room rug?

Measure the seating area and mark out the outline on the floor with tape so you can see how the rug will lie. Leave 30 to 50 cm of floor space free along the walls and place the front legs of all the seating furniture on the rug. The size of rug you need therefore depends on the size of your seating area and how much of the furniture the rug needs to cover.

In terms of style, the pile height determines the level of comfort: a thick, soft pile provides extra comfort. A tightly woven, low-pile rug looks more contemporary. A classic or Persian rug creates a stately, warm atmosphere. A geometric or modern rug suits a more minimalist interior. Choose a neutral colour as a base or a bold pattern as a focal point for the room. Light colours such as beige and white enhance the airy feel of your living room, whilst a darker or green rug brings a sense of calm and depth. A woollen rug also feels soft and keeps the floor warm.

I found a beautiful and unique rug. Friendly customer service. It took a while to arrive, as it had to be shipped from its country of origin. It was well worth the wait. Highly recommended!!

Frequently Asked Questions

Good to know

Choose the size based on the seating area itself, not the whole room. Measure the sofa, armchairs and coffee table together, and make sure the rug covers that group of furniture.

A tightly knotted Berber or Persian rug made from sheep’s wool is durable under normal use. A more loosely woven or very high-pile rug will wear out more quickly in the most heavily trodden areas.

Yes, in an open-plan living space, a rug visually delineates the seating area from the dining or kitchen area, without creating a physical barrier.

Once you have received the rug, roll it out flat and place a non-slip mat underneath it. If it continues to curl, it helps to place heavy pieces of furniture on the corners until the rug has settled.

Both work well in rooms with plenty of natural light. The difference lies in the effect they create. A darker rug grounds the space, whilst a lighter rug enhances the airy feel. So choose based on which of the two you prefer.

Vacuum the rug two to three times a week, following the direction of the pile, on a low setting. Blot stains immediately with a damp cloth and a drop of pH-neutral wool detergent, and rotate the rug periodically to ensure even wear.

A thin, flat-woven kilim allows heat to pass through easily. A thickly knotted rug retains more heat. Check with the supplier or installer of your underfloor heating to see if a rug is permitted and under what conditions.

Yes, for example, a large rug under the seating area and a smaller one next to a reading chair. Choose rugs from the same colour family so that they don’t clash with one another.

Start with the sofa: measure its width and work out how many centimetres the rug should extend beyond each side. Work outwards from there to the rest of the seating area.

Use a non-slip mat made of felt or rubber that is slightly smaller than the rug, so that the edges do not curl up. With a large rug, a mat covering the entire surface will prevent it from sliding or buckling.
