Small rug

A small rug is a rug with a longest side of no more than 150 cm, i.e. up to and including 150 x 150 cm. It works well as an accent rug, for example next to the bed, without taking up too much space. Find your small rug on this page.

About the collection

The first products in the list are the bestsellers from the Berber collection, starting from 200 x 150 cm. These sizes fall outside the definition of ‘small’ (longest side up to 150 cm). They are shown because they are the bestsellers from the same collection. All products on this page with a longest side of up to 150 cm do, however, belong to this category.

About the collection

A small rug has a longest side of no more than 150 cm (up to 150 x 150 cm). It works well as an accent rug, for example next to the bed. Do not use it as the basis for an entire seating area.

Within that price range, prices start at €468.95 for a 150x100 cm Beni Ouarain rug. The 150x100 cm Azilal rug costs €499.95 and the hand-knotted 140x120 cm Malik Beni Ouarain rug costs €624.95. Most of the rugs in this collection are made of pure wool; in Moroccan Berber rugs, wool defines the character of the rug.

Beni Ouarain and Azilal are the two most common types in the range: both are Moroccan Berber traditions and are hand-knotted.

The 150x150 cm size stands out. The total range comprises 135 products, 48 of which are in the 150x150 cm size; of those 48, 45 come from Morocco, mainly Berber rugs. Within our range, this square size therefore serves as a distinctive Moroccan accent rug.

Other small sizes, such as 100x100 and 120x170 cm, are more widely available from Turkey, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan, often as smaller Persian or Oriental rugs.

The bestsellers at the top of the list start at 200 x 150 cm and therefore fall outside this definition. They appear here because they are the bestsellers from the same Berber collection.

Small sizes

The following table lists the sizes with a longest side of up to 150 cm, showing the most common origin and typical use for each size:

Size Most common country of origin Ideal for
100 x 100 cm Afghanistan, Pakistan, India Small square accent
120 × 170 cm Turkey, India, Pakistan Next to the bed
150 x 150 cm Morocco Square Moroccan accent rug; the vast majority of this size is a hand-knotted Moroccan Berber rug

How do you choose the right rug?

Measure the area and leave some space free on each side of the floor. If placing it next to a bed, let the rug extend 30 to 50 cm beyond the mattress, so that when you get out of bed you step onto wool and your feet stay warm. Each product lists its exact measurements, material composition and stock status.

Our small rugs come in a variety of shapes, materials and pile heights. Will you choose a low-pile woven jute rug for the hall, a high-pile shaggy rug for softness, or perhaps a round rug that creates a sense of space in a small room? A small rug in a Scandinavian or vintage style also gives the room a warm feel. In our online shop, you’ll find full details for each product, so you can choose the rug that suits your interior and the atmosphere you’re aiming for.

  • Next to the bed: 100 x 100 or 120 x 170 cm, on one side or on both sides if you’re using two rugs.
  • Hall or entrance hall: a smaller size with space all around it. This works well in a short corridor or entrance hall. For a longer corridor, choose a proper runner or place two small rugs one behind the other.
  • A focal point in the living room: 150 x 150 cm, for example under a reading chair or side table in a reading corner, or combined with a larger rug elsewhere in the room. A small rug is too small to serve as the basis for an entire seating area; in that case, you should opt for a medium-sized one.

I found a beautiful and unique rug. Friendly customer service. It took a while to arrive, as it had to be shipped from its country of origin. It was well worth the wait. Highly recommended!!

Frequently Asked Questions

Good to know

Not necessarily. A smaller surface area means less material, but the price depends mainly on tradition and technique: the hand-knotted Malik Beni Ouarain measuring 140x120 cm costs €624.95, whilst the larger bestsellers, starting from 200x150 cm, start at €449.95. The price is listed for each product.

Each rug is hand-knotted or woven on a loom, which varies from one maker to another. With a small rug, a deviation of a few centimetres is relatively more noticeable than with a large one.

Vacuum the rug regularly using a soft brush attachment on a low setting, and shake it out outdoors from time to time. Blot stains immediately with a damp cloth and a drop of pH-neutral wool detergent. For a thorough clean of a hand-knotted wool rug, we recommend professional cleaning.

Yes, smaller sizes are traditionally used as wall hangings too. Secure the hanging at the top using a wooden slat or fabric hooks.

Yes, provided the door can swing freely over the rug. Measure the clearance height beneath the door and, if space is limited, choose a low-pile rug; the pile height for each rug is stated in the product specifications.

No. With a small rug, most of the floor remains uncovered, so the heat output of the room is hardly affected.

Yes. A small rug has little weight of its own to keep it in place, and on smooth floors such as tiles, there is little friction, so it is more likely to slide than a large rug. Use a non-slip mat made of felt or rubber that is slightly smaller than the rug.

If you want to cover more floor space or be able to change the layout regularly. A small rug creates a single focal point. A medium-sized rug gives you more flexibility in your layout.
