Gangbare vulling is oude kleding, lakens, of lappen stof, eventueel aangevuld met piepschuimkorrels voor extra stevigheid. Vermijd te losse vulling, want dat maakt de poef instabiel.
Stof de poef regelmatig af met een droge doek. Om het leer soepel te houden, gebruik je af en toe een lederverzorgingsproduct, en dep je vlekken direct, zonder te wrijven.
