As for the materials used to knot the patchwork rugs, it appears that Authentic modern patchwork rugs are handmade and 100% are knotted with the best quality wool & cotton. (since the rug pieces used to make them are also made of wool) and dyed with vegetable dyes, according to centuries-old recipes. Wool and vegetable dyes ensure the fabrics are waterproof and non-flammable, so if kept in good condition with proper cleaning, the rug will retain its beauty for a long time (which justifies the cost)."

Pure new wool is naturally dirt-repellent and resilient, and is washed and carded rather than chemically softened, which keeps the fibre elastic and ensures the rug will last for years.
