Description
Turkish kilims are lightweight yet sturdy plain weave rugs that are perfect for high-traffic areas such as the hallway or kitchen. Contemporary/modern, plain weave & kilims, stripes, transitional style kilim with ivory and salmon accent colors. Imported from Turkey and manufactured using the finest weaving techniques. Plain woven and made of 100% wool with a backing of 100% cotton. 154.9 cm x 233.7 cm.
Pure new wool is naturally dirt-repellent and resilient, and is washed and carded rather than chemically softened, which keeps the fibre elastic and ensures the rug will last for years.

Het woord kilim komt via het Turks van het Perzische gelim, een aanduiding voor een plat geweven kleed. Kilim is een andere schrijfwijze. Voor bepaalde Marokkaanse platweefsels wordt ook de naam hanbel gebruikt.
Bekijk de structuur van het weefsel, de voor- en achterkant en de afwerking van de randen. Bij een plat geweven kelim is het patroon vaak aan beide zijden zichtbaar. Kleine verschillen in vorm en afwerking kunnen bij handwerk horen. De productinformatie geeft meer duidelijkheid over de herkomst en eigenschappen van het afzonderlijke kleed.
Niet altijd. Bij een kelim die met de slit-weave techniek is gemaakt, kunnen langs verticale kleurgrenzen kleine openingen ontstaan. Die volgen uit de manier waarop de inslagdraden bij een kleurwissel omkeren.
Motieven binnen onder meer Anatolische weeftradities worden soms in verband gebracht met vruchtbaarheid, kracht of bescherming. De betekenis verschilt per regio en context. Een ruit of haakvorm alleen vertelt daarom niet met zekerheid waar een kleed vandaan komt of wat de wever ermee bedoelde.
Een kelim is plat geweven en heeft geen pool. Veel Berber rugs hebben juist een geknoopte, zachte pool. Daardoor verschillen de kleden in dikte, structuur en gevoel onder de voeten.

Stofzuig de kelim regelmatig aan beide kanten op een lage stand, zonder roterende borstel. Dep gemorste vloeistof voorzichtig op en volg voor vlekbehandeling de onderhoudsinstructies van het specifieke product. Laat grote of hardnekkige vlekken bij voorkeur professioneel reinigen.
Een dunne, plat geweven kelim kan geschikt zijn voor vloerverwarming, mits de dikte en materiaalsamenstelling passen. Een dun kleed zonder pool houdt minder warmte tegen dan een dik, geknoopt vloerkleed. Controleer bovendien de geschiktheid van een eventuele antislipmat en de voorschriften van je vloerverwarmingssysteem.
Ja. Het vlakke weefsel vormt een praktische ondergrond voor stoelen. Kies een maat waarbij de stoelen ook na het aanschuiven en opstaan op het vloerkleed blijven staan.
Een vintage kelim is een eerder gebruikt, plat geweven kleed. Slijtage, reparaties, verkleuring en de staat van de franjes variëren per exemplaar. Bekijk daarom altijd de foto's en productbeschrijving van het gewenste kleed.
