1. Sustainability begins with quality and lifespan
A hand-knotted rug lasts for generations. That is our most concrete contribution to sustainability: not a disposable product, but a piece that retains its value. Quality and longevity are our primary contribution to sustainable consumption.
2. Materials
Our collection includes rugs in bamboo silk, jute, cotton, recycled cotton, viscose, and wool. Each product lists the exact fiber composition - see Product information & materials.
Recycled cotton: For rugs where we state recycled cotton, this can be substantiated via the supplier documentation. We ask suppliers for declarations of conformity for material designations.
3. Substantiated claims - EmpCo standard
The EmpCo guideline (EU 2024/825) requires sustainability claims to be demonstrable, understandable, and verifiable. Implementation deadline: ~27 March 2026; application: ~27 September 2026. We already apply this standard:
- Every sustainability or origin claim is substantiated by a piece of evidence in our file.
- No vague terms like “eco-friendly” or “sustainable” without concrete explanation.
- No self-invented quality marks without external certification.

4. Packaging (PPWR - key date 12 August 2026)
We limit packaging material to what is necessary and choose recyclable options. We are preparing for the PPWR packaging regulations: labelling of material composition, recyclability and – where applicable – QR codes for reusable packaging.
Waste management contribution (Verpact): We process less than 50,000 kg of packaging material per year, which puts us well below the threshold for mandatory reporting. For single-use plastic (SUP), additional registration obligations apply regardless of the quantity – we monitor our SUP usage.
5. Transport
We ship via PostNL, FedEx, or a regional carrier. Shipments are consolidated where possible. No air freight unless strictly necessary.
6. Continuous improvement
We are working on further supply chain transparency and continuously review where we can make our materials, packaging, and transport more sustainable. We only communicate what we can substantiate.
