Good to know
Neutral colours such as beige, grey and white go well with almost any interior design and furniture colour. They provide a calm foundation upon which other colours in the room can be built.
A dark rug can make a room feel more intimate and cosy, but it doesn’t necessarily make it seem smaller. In a small room with plenty of natural light, a dark rug often still works well.
Choose one colour from the rug that is also featured in a piece of furniture, a cushion or a curtain. Keep the rest of the room more neutral, so that the colours do not clash.
Over the years, the colour of dyed wool will fade when exposed to direct sunlight for long periods. Turn the rug half a turn regularly to ensure the colour remains even.
Screens display colours differently, and dyed wool changes shade in daylight and under artificial light. Please inspect the rug in daylight upon receipt; you can return it within the returns period if the colour isn’t right.
Warm colours such as red, orange and brown have a yellow or red undertone and create a cosy atmosphere. Cool colours such as blue, green and grey have a blue undertone and create a calmer, more spacious feel.
On a light-coloured floor, a rug with more contrast adds texture; on a dark floor, a lighter rug actually creates a sense of space. Always check the colour of the rug against a photo or sample of your own floor.
Yes, if you stick to a shared colour or shade across the rooms. A consistent colour scheme creates a sense of cohesion, even if each room has a different pattern.
A plain rug is easier to coordinate with other patterns elsewhere in the room, such as cushions or curtains. A rug with its own pattern calls for a more subdued setting.
Vacuum the rug regularly, following the direction of the pile, on a low setting. Blot stains immediately with a damp cloth and a drop of pH-neutral wool detergent; do not use bleach, as this will damage the colour.
A newly dyed rug may bleed slightly the first time it is wet-cleaned. You should therefore test it first on a corner using a damp white cloth before wet-cleaning the rug.
Use a non-slip mat made of felt or rubber that is slightly smaller than the rug. If the rug is a light colour, choose a light-coloured mat so that a dark mat does not show through the weave.
