What customers say about our Berber rugs

Hand-knotted Berber rugs from the Moroccan Atlas

A Berber rug is a family of hand-knotted rugs woven by the Amazigh, the original Berber population of North Africa, at the first mention, with a rich history going back generations. The Berber tribes in the Atlas Mountains have become the most internationally known, and their work forms the basis of our collection today. Each region has its own style, pattern, and color palette.

Recognizing an authentic Berber rug

A real handmade Berber rug has slight irregularities in the pattern (proof of craftsmanship), visible individual nodes on the back, and fringes that are part of the fabric itself and not stitched on afterwards. Atlas wool as a material has a slightly greasy texture due natural lanolin, something you won't see or feel with polyester imitations.

Atlas wool is naturally hypoallergenic and breathable, making a Berber rug a good choice for the bedroom or children's room as well.

Berber rug in the living room, which size fits?

A Berber rug in the living room It works best when it visually brings the seating area together. For a 3-seater sofa, 200×300 cm is the standard choice. For a corner sofa or larger dining room combination, 240×340 cm or 300×400 cm works better. In the bedroom, 170×240 cm suffices next to a double bed. In the hallway, choose a runner or a smaller size up to 150×200 cm.

A Berber rug always imposes something of itself on the space; the natural tones and geometric patterns call for calm furniture around it, or conversely, for a room that can handle that contrast.

Maintenance of your Berber rug

Wool is naturally dirt-repellent Due to the lanolin in the fiber, daily dust and sand slide off more easily than on synthetic rugs. Vacuum your Berber rug weekly with a flat nozzle, preferably in the direction of the pile. Turn the rug occasionally to distribute wear evenly.

In case of a stain: dab immediately with a damp cloth; never rub. If necessary, use special stain remover sprays on wool. For deep cleaning, we recommend a specialized rug restorer or a laundry service experienced with hand-knotted wool rugs. Do not machine wash.

A well-maintained Berber rug ages beautifully: the color becomes richer, the pile softer, and the rug acquires character that a new rug never has.

Frequently asked questions about Berber rugs

How much does an authentic Berber rug cost?

Between €449 and €1,249, depending on type, size, and knot density. Knot density is the number of knots per square decimeter. The higher the density, the finer the weave and the more durable the rug.

What is the difference between Beni Ouarain and Azilal?

Beni Ouarain is ivory-colored with black-brown checks and high pile. Azilal It has an ivory base but is warm and colorful, with more expression than a Beni Ouarain.

How long does a Berber rug last?
