Description

Moroccan silk sabra cushions with cacti

This unique Moroccan cushion is handwoven and hand dyed. The fabric is commonly known as “cactus silk” or “sabra silk”.

Spiny leaves from sustainable Saharan agave cacti are harvested, hammered and then soaked to release fibers. The fibers are then hand-spun using traditional processes to create cactus silk. The silk is then combined with camel wool and hand-woven on a loom to create cactus silk rugs which are then made into these vintage cushion covers.

The cushion features ancient symbolic Berber motifs from the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco and has a hand-sown, woven fringe with a tassel on each corner.

Each piece features a unique, intricately embroidered design, and no two will be exactly the same!

Onderhoud

Met de juiste zorg gaat Handgemaakte Marokkaanse kussenhoes — Sabra zijden kussen — Lalla Zhor - goudgeel decennia mee. Hieronder vind je onze onderhoudsrichtlijnen.

Daily maintenance

  • Vacuum weekly using suction power only. Avoid beating brushes or rotating brushes, which can damage the fibers.
  • Turn the rug over for a few hours once a month so that trapped dust can fall out.
  • Shake or beat the rug outside occasionally to fluff the pile and remove dust.

Removing stains

  • Blot up spilled liquid immediately with a clean cloth. Never rub, and work from the outside in.
  • For light stains, cold water on a damp cloth is usually sufficient.
  • For more stubborn stains, you can use a wool-safe cleaner or a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar. Always test on an inconspicuous area first.
  • Avoid hydrogen peroxide and bleach, as these can discolor and damage wool fibers.

Thorough cleaning

  • Clean the rug thoroughly approximately every 6 months, more often in areas with heavy foot traffic.
  • Steam cleaning is possible, provided you do not soak the rug. Let it dry completely before walking on it.
  • For valuable or handmade woolen Berber rugs, professional cleaning every 12 to 18 months is safest.

Prevention

  • Keep the rug out of direct sunlight to prevent discoloration.
  • Tackle loose threads early. Cut them off, do not pull them.
  • Turn the rug over occasionally for even wear.
